Partner Connect 2014

We concluded the Partner Connect 2014 roadshow a week ago. Partner connect is our yearly partner roadshow across AU & NZ. The event helps MYOB keep in touch with the key Bookkeeper, Certified Consultant and Accountant partners around product road-maps and upcoming releases. It also provides a great opportunity for our add-on partners to showcase their solutions and network with the partners.

Improving Partnerships & Trusts

In the upcoming AccountRight 2014.4 release, AccountRight makes it easier for Partnerships & Trusts to do their accounts. Historically it’s been a little tricky to distribute profit or loss incurred for Partnerships or Trusts, this new release addresses that.

A business setup as a partnership where it’s is owned by two or more partners, or a trust type setup where the business has multiple beneficiaries has historically had to manually record general journal transactions in order to distribute the profit or loss generated.

Live broadcasting

This year has seen us exploring new ways to share the add-on story across MYOB and into the market. In the past 6 months we’ve experimented and tested - and I think we’re finally getting somewhere.

During PartnerConnect 2014 we are taking our learnings on the road and shooting live (which exposes many more tech hurdles to cross). We’ve been asked by our partners what we use - so this post will explore the tech and tools we use.

Single sign on with MYOBapi?

We do get asked from time to time, can I “sign up a user” with the MYOBapi (can I create a user profile from MYOB - you have all the details already). Technically the answer is no, however we have modified the OAUTH responses lately to give you some user information, to at least start down this path.

When a user logs in via OAUTH we responded with a payload that includes the access_token, refresh_token and expiry. That response has been extended to now also include a unqiue ID for the user and their email address.

You could use this information as a starting point for a user profile, and upon return from the OAUTH system to your service you could prompt the user to complete a profile. This way you can use their my.MYOB profile and the oauth login to manage their logins, making it easy for customers to log into your system with MYOB as the authorising service.
